Most people want to run and hide when they hear that word. Volunteer. The spectre of adding one more thing to an already overcrowded daily list can be overwhelming. But if you think of the word volunteer as helper, this is an easier task than you think.
You can help North Road by shopping locally. Doing businesses locally. Eating at one of our many local restaurants. Hiring from a whole range of professionals who have offices here, having your car tuned up at the local mechanic. In this way, you're getting first rate service and supplies you need and you are helping the community too.
Think of the 100 mile diet. Apply the principles to the idea of the 10 km shop. Now you're helping!
While you're at it, take in some community spirit! The BIA supports local schools. We have linked up with the 3 public schools that are right here in our area and are looking forward to participating in seasonal events together! For instance, in the days leading up to Halloween you can expect to see carved Halloween pumpkins and colouring sheets on display at participating retailers. North Road Square will also host a costume party outside North Road Square on Saturday, October 30th from 11:00 - 1:00.
If you are a student and are looking for volunteer hours to fulfill the work study requirements, we welcome you! Over the past year we have had many excellent students from Burnaby Mountain Secondary School earn valuable work study hours for credit as helpers on events. If you would like to come out as a volunteer to help on one of our special projects, please contact the office at 604-415-4779.
