Carolyn Orazietti has worked as the Executive Director of the Burnaby North Road BIA since November of 2009. She is an experienced BIA person, having been one of the first people on board at the Downtown Vancouver BIA during the 90’s. Her background includes teaching communication skills, publicity, coordinating events and free lance writing. These skills certainly come in handy in a job where liaising with the business membership, community groups and City Hall is all important. The BIA stakeholders and City Officials worked with BIA staff in the early part of the year to create a long term plan for the area which would address the core issues and needs of the area. The City understands our desire to redevelop the area and supports us by working with potential developers to realize the vision that was created in the Lougheed Town Centre plan many years ago. A BIA works to find out what area priorities are and strategically address them. In areas like organizing business promotion, tourism development, safety and security and street enhancement, a BIA can take be very successful. A BIA can be effective in organizing and financing area maintenance and improvement programs that are beyond the capability of individual businesses and most merchant associations.
